The Security Industry Authority, the regulatory body of the private security industry and part of the Home Office, require two Business Monitoring Specialists to join them on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding Government Department who can offer continued career growth and development, a flexible, supportive and secure working environment and excellent benefits including 27.5 days holiday (rising to 32.5) and enrolment to the Civil Service Pensions Scheme (27-30% employer contribution). This opportunity offers Hybrid working with some attendance to the Docklands-based office required.

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to help shape the work of a new Business Standards function. The postholder will report to the Senior Manager – Strategy and Scheme Design.
The purpose of the role is to safeguard the integrity of the SIA’s regulatory regime by providing greater assurance on the industry use of business standards. The post holder will be responsible for a range of activities that will promote the uptake of standards and help businesses improve.

The role will contribute to the raising of standards within the private security industry.

Job description

  • To work closely with the SIA’s Decisions team by supporting the application process to protect the integrity of the ACS scheme.
  • Support the implementation of 2nd line assurance activities across Business Standards.
  • Produce detailed and meaningful statistics designed to provide 2nd line assurance of the ACS.
  • Carry out compliance checks against ACS policies and procedures, reporting findings, managing action plans.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of frameworks that deliver greater assurance for assessment outcomes.
  • Contribute to the design and development of assurance processes.
  • Contribute to a programme of assurance visits to ACS companies.
  • Work with colleagues in the organisation to ensure expert input into decision making at all stages of the management of the ACS scheme.
  • Maintain an expert level of industry knowledge through continuous professional development and direct engagement with the industry, experts in quality management and standard setting bodies.
  • Support the smooth running of schemes of approvals by contributing to guidance documents and scheme rules.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of resources to support businesses to drive standards.
  • Contribute to system developments, process changes and other ad hoc projects to improve assurance efficiency.
  • Complete reasonable ad-hoc duties and tasks requested by your manager.


  • Experience of managing assurance processes.
  • Experience of assurance management and process improvement.
  • Experience of regulation or working within regulated frameworks.
  • A strong analytical mindset.
  • Use of research and data to underpin decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • Practical experience of working in or with the private security industry.
  • Experience of working with the Approved Contractor Scheme or other scheme aimed at raising standards in the industry.
  • Experience of working in a role giving advice to businesses.
  • In possession of a full driving licence.
