Description

Are you ready for a new challenge in a different kind of physiotherapy provision? Then come and join our physiotherapy team at Queen Alexandra College! We are looking for an enthusiastic qualified physiotherapist with a passion for delivering the best possible care and support to young adults with physical, learning and neuro disabilities. If you are looking for a role where no two days are the same and where your input will help our students’ to get the best out of their time at college, then this could be the job for you.

Our small physio team work alongside curriculum, residential and other therapy staff to support students’ to manage their physical wellbeing. As well as direct contact with students to deliver therapeutic programmes, you will be involved in guidance and training for staff, assessing, planning and evaluating therapy plans and will liaise with parents, carers and other health professionals as required. You will also provide clinical supervision to our physiotherapy assistants.

We offer set working hours, days only, Monday to Friday, 41 weeks a year (although you may be expected to do some working outside of these hours to support with training, as required). The majority of hours are worked during term time, with two weeks worked across the summer break (there is an opportunity to work more flexibly across the summer break, as per the needs of the service).

We are based in Harborne, Birmingham which has good transport links and is served by several frequent bus services.

Key Responsibilities

Assess the physiotherapy needs of identified students’ referred for a place at
QAC.

Complete, implement and review physiotherapy treatment programmes for
students.

Work closely with staff in academic, healthcare, mobility and residential services
to ensure the provision of safe, holistic care to students.

Have an awareness / experience of working with individuals with learning
disabilities / difficulties, autism, physical disabilities, mental health needs and
visual impairment.

Ensure that a high standard of physiotherapy service is provided, adhering to
quality measures and expected outputs.

Maintain up to date records of student progress and write reports for reviews
and outside agencies as required.

Liaise with parents/carers and other health professionals as required.

Ensure that all equipment used is in good order and practice in accordance with
current Health and Safety legislation and policies.

Support senior curriculum staff to produce a physiotherapy timetable for
students.

Provide support and clinical guidance to the Physiotherapy Assistants and
delegate care appropriate to their skill set.

Instruct students and their support staff in an active approach to gaining and
maintaining personal independence. This requires empathy, sensitivity and
good interpersonal skills.

Use effective communication tools, verbal and non-verbal to communicate
treatment programmes to students who may have barriers to understanding or
communicating, e.g. blind, deaf, dysphasic or who have limited English.

Ability to carry out assessment and treatment with moderate to intense physical
effort on a daily basis.

The post holder will respect confidentiality at all times.

To attend in-house training as required and actively participate in the delivery of
in house training, including being a Moving and Handling trainer for the college.

Ability to work flexibly with occasional evening, weekend working to support
student or training requirements, with mutual agreement to meet business
needs.

Contribute to development of student care by attending relevant team,
departmental or other appropriate meetings and relay information to relevant
others regarding the recommended changes to clinical care or service provision.

Have the ability to work effectively under pressure and with limited supervision.

Demonstrate a good understanding of equality and diversity and encourage
students to be involved in their care, respecting their physical, emotional and
social needs.

Work in a professional manner, honoring the CSP (Chartered Society of
Physiotherapy) Code of Conduct and keeping up to date with professional
developments within your range of practice and beyond.

Perform such other duties consistent with the nature of the post as may be
required from time to time.

Qualifications & Training

A degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy

Be registered with the Health an Care Professions Council (H.C.P.C)

Full membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Skills and Expertise

Computer literate and able to produce clear case notes

Ability to use specialist equipments, such as hoists and Standing Frames

Flexible and adaptable communication style

Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Able to support, advise and train staff to use specialist equipment

Able to plan, prioritise and implement physiotherapy treatments

Previous experience of providing varied clinical physiotherapy treatment

Previous experience of working with people who have a disability, including visual impairments

Awareness of legislation relating to Health and Safety and Data Protection

Previous experience of working with a range of professionals, whilst still maintaining a high standard and quality of care
