Location: Gatwick, GB

Company: Civil Aviation Authority

Salary: £21,102 to £23,868 dependant on experience

Contract Type: Permanent

We are the UK’s aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

We’re looking for an Operations Support Officer to form an integral part of our Flight Operations (FO) department.

By acting as the coordination and direct support function, you will provide an important support service to the wider FO team. Through your ongoing work, quality assurance and monitoring of records, you will support the inspecting team and contribute to preventing safety failings.

In this semi technical role, you will have an overview of all tasks in hand and ensure the work is covered and relevant documentation produced to a high standard. You will assist the inspecting team with technical assessments, including the raising of non-compliances and reviewing corrective action, as well as managing daily activities though performance planning, performance assurance and business assurance.

As required, you will produce and monitor management information and analyse trends to help identify areas for improvement and support managerial decision making. In turn, you will develop a sound knowledge base of the systems, processes, and procedures within FO, as well as the regulatory framework in which we work

.

You will develop a good working knowledge of regulatory and inter-departmental working which will see you collaborate throughout the CAA and with external stakeholders.

As required, you will also provide ad-hoc administrative support to the management team, such as arranging and facilitating meetings, coordinating oversight events etc.

About You

  • You will be a confident verbal and written communicator. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to the role as you will liaise and build relationships with individuals at all levels throughout the CAA and externally
  • A tenacious, problem-solving, and conscientious attitude is key, with a keen eye for detail
  • You will demonstrate business value through your MI analysis and will confidently provide expert advice and positive challenge
  • You must be resilient in the face of challenge and be able to make evidence-based decisions
  • At times you will need to work independently, so strong self-management is important, particularly around prioritising and organising your workload.
  • You will need to be proactive and work well under pressure to ensure deadlines are met
  • IT skills in a range of Microsoft packages and bespoke databases and systems are essential
  • You must be willing to take on new projects and tasks that sit outside of the day job.
  • We are looking for a team player who can support their peers, as well as the wider FO team
  • Previous experience in an aviation environment is advantageous but not essential

What Can We Offer You?

This is a varied and diverse role working within FO where often no day is the same. This unique opportunity will give you wide exposure to a SARG Capability Team and an opportunity for internal progression, potentially to an inspecting role, in the future. We will ensure you maintain your skillset to the highest of standards as well as giving you the opportunity for personal and professional development with the wider CAA.

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. This can either be 3 years or 5 years depending on the level required (CTC or SC). If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application.
